Verle Hammond retired as a Colonel in 1984 after serving 28 years in the US Army, including a one year tour in Vietnam. He founded a successful logistics firm in 1989, and grew the company to be known as one of the nation's leading providers of logistics and acquisition management solutions. He is an active member of Messiah United Methodist Church. Mr. Hammond received his bachelor's degree from Florida A&M University and his M.B.A from Florida State University. He met his wife, Eleanor, in college, who has had a long and distinguished teaching career.

Mrs. Hammond spent many years as an educator in the public school system serving, at one time, as a curriculum and staff development coordinator. She started teaching in 1955 after graduating from Florida A&M University with a degree in Music Education and has taught children at all grade levels, all around the world. Mrs. Hammond has spent many years volunteering: serving as Choir Director for numerous Army Chapels, as a Girl Scouts Assistant Leader, and served on the Board of Housing and Community Services of Northern Virginia (HCSNV). She is currently an active member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and the Messiah United Methodist Church choir.
